Night owl. . .

Yep, that's what my gal is!!! Ever since she was a baby, she's never been a good sleeper. I always envy those mommies that have babies to go to bed at 7 pm and sleep well for the next 12 hours. *sigh* I was never that fortunate. As a baby, she hated naps and always made a big fuss about it. She's a really sweet little gal till the word nap is mentioned, then she turns into a cranky little gal. :(
Well, for the last month, I've decided to give up forcing her to take naps. Instead I set a quiet time where she has to be quiet & rest & read some books by herself. So far, it's working out ok. There's pros & cons. The bad part is that she's falling asleep at dinner table. So now I have to try to get dinner earlier. But the best part is that without a nap, she's now ready for bed at 9 pm instead of her usual 11 pm. So more time for myself at night. :) I think I'm going to stick to this schedule for a while & see what happens.

Wow, 11pm? How does she manage? When your girl is in bed at 11pm, what time does she wake up?

Without nap she still sleeps at 9pm? Phew!! It would be interesting for me to know what time she wakes up.

Hailey's the same way. Fights every single time when nap or sleep is mentioned. I think I'm at the stage where I'm going to let go of the naps too.

good luck.

Judy, she's usually up by 7:30 - 8 am!! Somehow she doesn't sleep a lot. Now u see why I dun have time to bake more! :p

Irene, ya, it was much easier giving up the nap than to fight with her everyday. :( Good luck to u too!

Hi B-M--that's amazing that she lasts until 11pm! She's building up stamina and learning how to be a late night child (smile).

I'm always impressed with how our little ones will push to stay awake no matter how tired.

TNP: I think it's partially genetic too :) Even as a baby she never really slept much. Yes, I think it's a game for them to try to stay awake :) Thanks for dropping by.

Same here... while most babies would be in bed by 7-8pm, mine slept at 11pm / 12mn. But as he grow older, now at 16 mths he got used to the routine (taught by nanny) of twice 2 hourly naps during the day so when he got home he'll be sleepy in bed by 10.30pm. It's still pretty late for a baby but I just give up after much effort. Mights well let nature take place...

A set quiet time is a good idea. Some kids are more ready to give up their day naps by the time they are about 3yo. So, stick with the quiet time and a routine would soon become regular. Just a thought, I am not sure if you like to bring forward her bedtime at night? One way I have done before is by bringing forward the bedtime 15-20 mins each week, slowly increasing to 30 mins then 45 mins, and slowly when you get to the desirable bedtime like 8pm or something, she would have gotten used to the routine and you get a bit more time to yourself in the evening.

jazzmint: yalor.. very hard to do my own stuff when she goes to bed so late....*sigh*

etcetera mommy: ya, too tired to fight over this liao too...

mommy of 2 angels: looks like I'm not the only one, eh?? hehe...

priscilla: thanks for ur advice. I've actually tried doing that but she ends up tossing & turning in bed but never fall asleep. I think she's just one of those that dun need much sleep. :)

wow i count my blessings! my girl was a monster (hardly slept day or night) until 5 months old. I dread the day when she no longer needs her afternoon nap anymore! Lil C sure has a lot of stamina and super alert, no wonder so smart lah.

My son is a night owl too .. If he sleeps more than 3 hours during day time, then his battery can last till 11.30pm++, so I try to limit his sleep to below 3 hours so that he'll sleep earlier at around 10.30pm :)
