Craft Time: Bookmarks

Saw this simple bookmark craft at Crazymommy's blog. Thought I would let Lil' C try it out too. So I cut some strips out of cardstock, punch a hole & added a bow from leftover Christmas ribbons. Then I gave some stickers & crayons to Lil' C to decorate. She had a lot of fun with this. Even decorated both sides of the bookmarks!! : ) Thanks for the idea, Crazymommy!!

Toddler Activity

Ever since I became a mommy, I'm always on a lookout for interesting children's programs for my gal. Of course there's lots of child enrichment programs out there but those pgms are really very expensive. So I try to look for some FOC programs if possible. Why pay for expensive programs when you can get the same thing for free, right? (Hey, that sounds like a line from my sponsored post!! hahaha...)

My favorite is definitely the Storytime at the libraries. I love the libraries here. They're very child-friendly & are always coming up with new pgms for kiddos. For Storytime, they usually have a different one for each age group & each library usually has a different pgm. But basically, at Storytime, they will read some books, so some singing and maybe some puppet show or craft time etc.. So sometimes, I will take Lil' C to at 1 or 2 Storytime per week at different libraries.

Recently, I discovered that a new once-a-wk activity time for toddlers at a nearby mall. Yep, it's held in one of the open area of the mall itself. That's even better 'cos Lil' C can have some fun & after that, Mommy can go shopping!! hahaha....

This is what they normally do. First, have some fun with a huge parachute.

Then they will read a book or two, sing some songs and finally Lil' C's favorite, craft time. Here she is doing making a turtle which was the theme for that week.

Tada... a cross-eyed turtle!!

Yes, it's FOC too!! I think it's part of a marketing strategy by the mall to get mommies to bring their kids to the mall. Once there, they can't help but do some shopping, right? Smart marketing, eh??

Puzzle Queen

Lil' C loves puzzles. Everyday, without fail, she will play with her puzzles. I love puzzles too, so maybe like mother like daughter? : p At 12 mths, she was already fiddling with those wooden puzzles. Now at 31 mths, she's moved on to bigger puzzles.

Here she is working on her 60-pieces puzzle while eating her banana. A multitasker ! : p

Working on her 70-pieces puzzle. Why she's wearing her backpack? I dunno.. hehehe...

She's able to complete a 70-pieces puzzle by herself. Right now, we're working on a 100-pieces puzzle. Still having some trouble with that. So proud of my little kiddo!!

Red Bean + Little Girl = Fun!

What do u do when u have a bored toddler who doesn't want to play with her toys??

Give her some a spoon, a bowl, a cup & some red beans!!

Having fun scooping red beans from the bowl to cup with a spoon. When she's got everything in the cup, have her pour it back into the bowl. Very helpful in developing fine motor skills & good practice for feeding herself during mealtime

And just when u thought that's the end of the game, she surprises u by pouring everything out & started jumping on them as if it's a trampoline. Since my floor's pretty safe, she's allowed to continue ....... (edit to add: pls dun do this on a tile floor or any smooth surface 'cos it might be slippery! I have a thick carpet on a wood floor, so it's not so slippery but even she falls, it doesn't hurt. )

And then she makes this

and said "Mommy, I made a flower for u" and that melts ur heart.......

The fun continues with even more shapes & even a sandcastle.

And when the game finally ends, we clean up by counting the beans....... Who knew that red beans could be used in so many other ways besides making red bean soup!! : )

Note: When playing with beans, do watch them very carefully to make sure they dun stuff them down their mouth or nose or any other body parts!! : P

Got tagged by WhoIsBaby for my first tag ever!

1. I sneak away to my computer every chance I get! Not easy with a toddler around the house. hehehe.....

2. I love to bake and experiment with food but I don't like to cook proper meals like those 3 dishes + 1 soup.

3. I love to eat bread. If my rice-loving hubby will let me, I will serve him bread every meal. hahaha....

5. I have a lot of to-do lists but most of the time, I never follow them

6. I have a quick temper. It comes fast & goes away fast. Have to learn how to control that with my little gal.

7. I can be pretty stubborn sometimes.

That's it for now!

I must say it feels good to say that I earned it myself. : ) The last time I got paid was when I left the corporate world 7 yrs ago!!

Strawberry Picking

Woohoo.... I love this time of the yr 'cos all the u-pick farms are starting to open their doors. Yesterday most of the U-pick farms open up for strawberry picking. Wanted to go yesterday but the weather was so wet, so had to abort plan. Today after church, even though the sky was a little gloomy, we decided to go anyway 'cos I already promised to bring Lil' C to the strawberry patch this weekend & she was so looking forward to it. So have to keep my promise to my little one, right?

The strawberry field:

Close-up of strawberry plants. Not very pretty, huh?

Ripe strawberries waiting to be picked.

An unripe strawberry

Strawberry pickers hard at work while mommy busy snapping away with the camera : ) Little kids get a tiny blue carton to hold the strawberries while the adults get a big wooden basket with a box in it.

When blue carton is full, dump it into mommy's basket

Finally... the harvest!!!
Guess how much this entire flat of strawberries cost???
.
.
.
Only $2.96!!! Not typo hor? Less than $3. Aren't they cheap?
I still have some more in my fridge that I bought last wk from Costco. Will have to figure out what to do with all the strawberries b4 they go bad.
Now if only they have a durian farm.................. : )

Sell your photos at Shutterstock

This is not a sponsored post, ok?? : ) A friend was asking me how to sell her photos, so I'm writing this for her & for anyone else who's interested.

You know those nice pics in magazines & ads? Nowadays, instead of taking their photos, most ad agency will buy stock photos 'cos it's cheaper & probably has more variety than if they take the pics themselves. They are many stock photo agency out there. The one that I'm using is Shutterstock. What the ad agencies will do is pay a monthly subscription to Shutterstock & they can download a certain no. of photos each mth.

If you are a photographer, what u do is submit your nice pics to Shutterstock. It's free but each photo u submit will have to be approved first b4 it's added to the gallery. Once it's in the gallery, each time someone downloads ur photo, u can paid 25 cents. It's not much but it all adds up. Some people even make a living out of this! Hopefully someday I will too!! hehehe.... The best part of this is that there's not much work to be done, just need to upload the photos & then once in a while, check & see if anyone is downloading ur photos.

S, I know u got lots of nice photos already, so check it out ok ?? : )

p/s: Anyone who is interested can also just click on the Shutterstock logo in my sidebar & sign up from there. Just to clarify, if u sign up from my blog, u will be on my referral pgm, which means everytime u get 25 cents, I will get 3 cents. : )

A day at the zoo

During the weekend, taking advantage of the nice weather, we brought Lil' C to the zoo. This is a small zoo but it's special in the sense that the animals there are kinda different. Not the normal tiger, lion, bears etc...

This is an alpaca. Isn't it cute????? Look at the way it's standing! So proper & ladylike!! Hehehe....

Clockwise: Another Alpaca , Emus, Lemur, Reindeer

They actually do name their reindeers Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer etc.. just like Santa's reindeer. They even have a Reindeer Festival in December. Will have to check it out in Dec.

Clockwise: Crane, Another crane that's saying "Hey are u taking my picture??", Macaw, Lil' C feeding the deer

And finally my little missy who insisted on wearing her funky-looking sunglasses!! : )
