Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!

I can't believe it's only a week till Christmas. Last week was a little crazy since it was the last week of school. There were lots of activities and a birthday party to attend. I am just a little tired, so I 've been trying to take it easy this week.

Originally I plan to go back to Malaysia in 2 weeks time but that trip has been postponed till maybe after Chinese New Year. Instead we'll be going off on a short vacation next week. Yippee!!! I will be taking a short blog break from this blog. I will be updating my other 2 blogs because I still have some outstanding jobs to complete. Hopefully I can get them done before my vacation.

So, here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Hope you all have a great holiday!! :)

For those that ask whether my gingerbread house is edible or not, the entire gingerbreadhouse is edible. It is made up of gingerbread cookies, icing sugar & candies. However I don't think I will be eating mine because it has been sitting on top of my fireplace for a couple of weeks so it's been collecting a lot of dust!! hehe....

Gingerbread House

Yay!! I finally got the Christmas gifts sent off in the mail today. The post office was a mad house with everyone trying to mailing their gifts off. But at least it's done and the gifts should arrive before Christmas day. :) ok, back to regular posting.......

Every Christmas, I always wanted to make a gingerbread house but have never gotten around to do so. Well, this year, I finally did one. I bought a gingerbread kit from Costco for $10. It comes complete with the gingerbread, icing and one whole pound of candy!

First the construction. That was the easy part.

Then the eager little one happily started to decorate. She decorated the roof, the front of the house and was having a lot of fun until ....... she realized that she was not allowed to eat those candy. Slowly she began to lose interest........ sigh........

So this mommy ended up decoratingthe gingerbread house all by herself!! :(

Anyway, it turned out pretty cute, eh? hehe.... Luckily we don't have any ants in the house, so I can just leave the gingerbread house on the mantel on top of the fireplace.

Winter Wonderland

This weekend turned out to be a really fun one. The unexpected snow was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad that it snowed on the weekends instead of weekdays. At least DH get to enjoy the fun too. It actually felt like Christmas 'cos the Christmas tree was up, the fireplace was on and it was snowing heavily outside. Reminds me of the song "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas......." :)

Anyway, here's a few photos to share:

Winter wonderland

Lil'C was trying to catch the snow. :) She was so excited when she saw the snow when she woke. She literally wanted to run out & play. We had to stop her. Made her eat her breakfast and then bundled her up before going outside.

Building her first baby snowman!!

She just found out that she can actually make footprints in the snow. So she started walking round & round! :P

Admiring her handiwork!

Writing her ABCs

I found Lil' C writing on her easel the other day.

And this is what she was writing. Her ABCs! She did really good except for the a couple of alphabets. Look at the ones I circled in red. Her J & S are written backwards. :) Initially she had the same problem with D & P but she finally figured them out. I guess she still have not quite figured out J & S.

Gold coins for me, please?

Nowadays US dollars seem to be declining every day. Initially I wasn’t too bothered by it but I really felt the impact when I went shopping in Canada recently. My USD didn’t go as far as it previously did. I think maybe it’s time for me to buy some gold coins from MONEX for investment instead. After all, gold has proven to be a way to preserve one’s purchasing power. Their value is not directly dependable on the falling US dollars and since it is universally acceptable, it can be traded throughout the world. If you want to buy gold coins like me, do check out Monex, America’s leading gold and precious metals investment leader for over 40 years.

The party's over

We had Lil' C's birthday party at our house on Sun. It was just a small one with just a few of her friends.

She loved her princess cake! See here for more details on the cake

The highlight of the party was the pinata. The kids loved whacking the pinata.

Since they are all 2-3 years old, they didn't have the strength to whack the pinata apart. Luckily there's a string attached that can be pulled to release all the goodies inside. Here's all the little hands grabbing the treasures that came out of the pinata. :)

So now the party's over and I have a 3 year old now. Does that mean no more terrible 2s??? hehe.....

Lost your tooth filling?

I remember 2 years ago, when I was eating bread one day, I felt something grainy in my mouth. I quickly spat it out thinking that it was something yucky in my bread. To my horror, I realized it was actually my tooth filling! Somehow, the filling came off my tooth. I was really surprised because I always thought that fillings are supposed to last a very long time.

Anyway, I tried to make an appointment with my dentist but I had to wait two days for an open appointment. For those 2 days, luckily it was not painful but it was definitely uncomfortable especially when I try to eat. I wished that I had known about Dentemp OS, and then maybe I wouldn’t have encountered difficulty eating for those 2 days.

Dentemp OS is an FDA approved over-the-counter dental cement that is the perfect dental first-aid for replacing lost fillings and temporarily cementing loose caps. It provides fast and temporary relief of pain and discomfort.

Applying Dentemp OS is easy. All you have to do is remove it from its plastic vial and it’s ready to use. Dentemp OS can be used more that 6 times. The best part is that the entire process of applying Dentemp OS till the time it takes effect, it only takes 60 minutes. That means I could have avoided 1 day and 23 hours of discomfort!!

If you have lost fillings or loose caps, avoid pain and discomfort by using Dentemp OS as a temporary dental repair while waiting to see your dentist.

Do you have a stained garage floor?

The other day I found a huge oil stain on my garage floor. It turned out that my car was leaking a little oil. So we had to send the car for repairs. Now the car has been fixed but there is still an ugly oil stain on the concrete of my garage floor. I can’t seem to clean it off. Maybe I should install garage floor tiles to cover the stain. What about your garage floors? Are there stains all over them too? Then check out for your garage floor makeover.

Princess C

This year my neighbor had a costume party for Halloween. Usually we don't celebrate Halloween so this is the first year that Lil' C got to wear a costume. But this cheapo mommy didn't want to spend money on a costume that can only be worn once so we ended up getting this Princess dress-up outfit from Costco. It was a really good deal. There were 3 princess costumes and it all comes in a dress-up box. Since Lil' C is in her Princess stage and loves dress-up anyway, it works out great. She gets to dress up as a princess everyday now!! :)

iFloor's new $1 Million warranty

Have you always wanted to buy flooring online but have never done so? Is it because you have heard horror stories about the growing number of warranty claims being denied for online buyers by the manufacturers? Well, worry no more because iFLOOR is offering $1,000,000 of warranty protection for online purchases. This warranty is free and is an add-on to their regular product warranty

Read more about this latest announcement from a recent press release:
iFLOOR, America's largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases.

The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer's warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.

iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat "scare tactics" used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. "Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!" wrote Simonson in his blog "It's About Flooring". "This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we're going to take care of this problem once and for all."

And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, "In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty."

Under iFLOOR's new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to "seek justice" on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, "I'm putting iFLOOR's money where my mouth is."

About iFLOOR, Inc.
Since 1998, has been the leading online and retail flooring company, with 36 local retail stores nationwide offering more than 70,000 products, including hardwood floors, laminate flooring, bamboo flooring and cork floors. is the largest online flooring retailer according to Internet Retailer Magazine, and was named by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the United States for the past three years. Committed to quality customer service, superior selection and friendly expert advice, enables customers to buy flooring both online and in its retail stores at a substantial savings over traditional retailers. Diaperless at night - Part 2

Continuing from the previous post, it's now day 4 and so far there's only been 1 accident. So it's looking good. Yay!! At this rate, I don't think I have to buy anymore diapers. I still have a few diapers left for emergency purpose. Since we were running low on stock, I almost bought a box from Costco last week but luckily I didn't otherwise I would have been stuck with 150 diapers!

Time for a holiday!

I am tired! I need a break from my daily busy routine. With the long holiday season coming up, I think it’s time for a vacation. My gal has been skiing around the house with her slippery socks. It will be a good idea to bring her on a ski vacation and let her experience snow for the first time. She can also learn to ski on real snow instead of on my wood floor!! I found some great Expedia deals on for a ski vacation.

Before hitting the slopes, I will need to get some ski clothes. I am sure that I will be able to score some great deals with my Target coupons from What about you? Do you need a vacation too? Don't forget to check for great online coupons before booking your vacation.

Diaperless at night - Day 1

If you have read my previous post on potty training, you will know that I was too lazy to potty train my gal but I had to do it to enroll her in school. hehe... And that was for daytime. As for nighttime, I wasn't even thinking about it. I was hoping maybe a year later because I am too lazy to wake up to bring her to the potty in the middle of the night.

But lately Lil' C's been very reluctant to wear diapers at night. She keeps complaining that it is very scratchy!! Actually I can't blame her. Underwears are definitely more comfortable than diapers. Anyway, last night, she refused to wear diapers. So I decided to give it a try. She slept late at 11 pm last night. Took her to the potty before bed. Then no more potty for the rest of the night.

And yippee!!! she was dry in the morning. We had to rush to the bathroom when she woke up but at least she didn't wet her bed. A successful 1st day! Let's see what happens tonight. Hopefully it will be a dry night too. :)

First wind storm of the season!

Nowadays I don't watch much TV so I don't really know what's the most updated news till much later. Anyway, this afternoon, I was sitting in my front of my PC when I noticed the wind was very strong outside. The trees were all bent over and lots of leaves were flying all over the place. But I didn't really bother about it 'cos I thought it was just an extra windy day.

Then later when I turned on the TV for Lil' C to watch & I saw all the evening school closing and event cancellation, only I realised it was a wind storm. At some places, the wind even reached up to 60 mph ( almost 100 kph!). Lots of trees got knocked down and > 100,000 homes are without power right now. Yikes!

The wind has died down for now. Tomorrow is supposed to be another windy day. Hopefully not like today!

Co-op Preschool

As I mentioned in my previous post, Lil' C is attending another preschool besides her Chinese preschool. One of the reason why I wanted to put her in this school is more for the socialization factor. Initially my plan was to homeschool her but I feel that she has come to the point where she needs interaction with others. Since we just moved here, we don't know many people. With no family around & DH at work, it's just me & her most of the time. There's a lot of homeschool support group here but it's more for older kids. That's why I decided to enroll her in this preschool just for her to interact with other kids. I still do a little homeschooling with her because the school is only for 2 days a week, 2 hours each.

This new school is called a cooperative (co-op) preschool. It's different from a normal preschool because I actually have to attend with her. I like that 'cos I get to observe how she plays with others & how she deals with situations. Then every 2 weeks, I also attend a parenting class in her school while she plays.

To me, this place is more like a playschool rather than a preschool. There's no teaching involved. What they have is all these activities for the kids to explore & learn. Some of the activities include:

There's a few more activities that I didn't include. After 1 1/4 hr of free play on the activities, there'll be some circle time for group activities like singing, fingerplay, parachute time, and some outdoor activities.

So far, she's loving the school & even made some new friends. :) As for me, I'm also having fun 'cos I get to talk to other moms & the teachers & learn from them. :)

Saving money with

Before I had a child, I loved to go to the malls and shop till I drop. But after having a child, that luxury doesn’t exist anymore. Shopping is no longer fun anymore especially when you have a toddler who seems to think that she needs to buy everything she sees! So nowadays, I prefer to shop online. Of course, when I shop online, I also take advantage of online coupons to save some money. After all, who doesn’t love to save money, right? is a great place to find online coupons. I love the fact that their coupons are organized alphabetically by merchants thus making it easy to look for the coupons. It is also updated daily with new online coupons. For my Christmas shopping this year, I will be doing most of my shopping at Old Navy and Best Buy, so I will definitely be using the Old Navy coupons and BestBuy Coupons.

First Day of School

Lil' C says "thank you, Aunty Jazzmint! I give u big kiss, ok? *muaks* !! :) I love this page very much! "

THANK YOU SO MUCH to this scrapbook sifu for making this beautiful scrap page for Lil' C. This sifu is so talented & very fast too!! She got this done in just a few hours after I send her the photo. I think if I were to do it myself, it might be a few years down the road. I'm still stuck on Lil' C's 2 day old scrap page!!! :P

I need more storage!

Even though it’s been more than 6 months since I moved into my new house, I still have not finished unpacking yet. My garage is a mess right now. I really need to get some storage bins from They have some really nice storage bins and cabinets available. Hopefully once I get everything stored away, I can finally park both cars into my 2-car garage.

What is the best place to store photos?

Sorry for the lack of updates recently! Actually I've been planning to write a post on my brainwashing sessions with Lil' C b4 school but I've been stuck on tweaking my food blog!! Even though I have migrated the posts over, the photos are still pointing to the blogger 'cos previously I uploaded all my photos to blogger. Since I plan to delete my blogspot one, I have to move all my > 150 photos somewhere!!!! Aaaaaaargh!!!! Help!!!

Right now, I can't decide where to upload my photos. Just wondering, those of you on your own domain, do u upload ur photos to ur domain server or do u use Flickr or Photobucket? Flickr is very nice now because I have a free pro account after they migrated from Yahoo photos to Flickr but it's going to expire soon. So I have to decide whether to pay to renew it or use their free one with some limitations or use Photobucket. Advice, anyone?

Happy Mooncake Festival!!

It's still Sep 25th here so technically it's not over yet. :) I'm sitting in front of my PC with a slice of my own homemade mooncake & a cup of tea while typing this & also looking at the big round moon through my window. I guess that's as close to the mooncake festival that I can get. :P

I really wish that Lil' C can experience the fun of playing with lanterns someday. Not the battery operated ones, but the paper ones with real candles, under strict supervision, of course. Those were the most fun. Don't you agree??

First Rollerblade!!

Lil' C's first rollerblade!! I never knew they had rollerblades for toddlers till I saw it in the stores the other day. Just like the real thing except that it has 3 wheels.

DH loves to rollerblade but I am a total klutz!! I totally have no sense of balance, so I am hoping that Lil' C doesn't take after me! hehe... Anyway, Lil' C had so much fun with it. Did pretty well for the 1st time except that my house is on a slight slope so she was a little confused why it was so easy to roll one direction (downhill) but cannot move at all on the other direction (uphill) !! haha....

We survived first week of school - Part 2

Continued from Part 1 . . . . .

So after I sneaked off, what did I do? I went to the mall across the school & headed straight for Starbucks! :) Holding a latte in one hand and my handphone in another, I found myself a comfy sofa & waited for my phone to ring. Gee, dunno why I so kan-cheong (nervous)? For experienced mommies, is this a normal feeling when your baby goes to school for the 1st time????

Minutes passed by & my phone was still quiet, I finally started to relax & enjoy my cup of latte. Got some of the latest kay-poh magazine off the shelves & read. Wah, such a nice relax feeling just reading & drinking even if it was just for a short time. :P

Then I went back to the school 15 min before dismissal & waited. Unfortunately, the classroom door was closed, so I cannot peep in. So no choicelor, waited for a little bit, chatted with other mommies & then the door open, & out came my little girl with a big smile on her face........ :)

According to the teacher, she did very well, a little quiet but did all her activities & even asked to go potty!! Mommy's so proud of you, my precious little girl !!! :D

So that was the end of the first day. The 2nd way was even better. When we got to school, her new friend E had just arrived too, so Lil' C & E just ignored their mommies & walked straight into class together without looking back!!! E's mom & I both looked at each other with a "huh, that's it, so easy????" look. :P

Then I went SHOPPING!!!! hehe.....

Nice Matters Award

Brandon's mommy & Gogo Snoopy awarded me with this beautiful award. Awww.... thank you very much, ladies!! *Hugs*

The originator of the Nice Matters award states that it is meant for “those that are just nice people, good blog friends, and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others, that are there to lend support, or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!”

I would like to pass this award to these wonderful ladies:

We survived the first week of school!!! - Part 1

I'm bacccccccck!! Curious to know how it went? Well, it was awesome!! It went very well. A little stress but not a single tear was dropped!! Yeah!!! Looks like the brainwashing worked. More about that later.

Monday, we got to the school a little early. She had a worried look on her cute face but didn't cry. Walked into class and there was a little Korean girl there. So I kinda took advantage of that, got some intros going & asked her if she wanted to play with her new friend, E :) I think that makes her feel a little better to have a "friend" . Turned out E is only 1 day younger than Lil' C.

Then instead of letting Lil' C just stand around & get anxious, the teacher immediately led Lil' C to the table & got her started working on a simple activity of putting marbles into a bottle. E was also working on an activity. To me, that was a really good move because the activity kept her busy & distracted her from her fear. I just stood aside & let the teacher guide her through the project. While the teacher was guiding her, she looked at me a few times for assurance. I just smiled & nodded my head. Slowly she began to feel more confident and was soon fully concentrated on her activity.

After hanging around for another 10 minutes, I told Lil' C that I would wait for her outside the class & come back to get her if she needs me. So I waited outside the door for another 5 mins, and then left. :D

To be continued . . .

Not a good idea!

This fall, I am planning to send Lil' C to a Chinese pre-school for 1 or 2 days per week. So I've been busy trying to check out schools. Yesterday, one of the school had an open house, so I brought Lil' C along to check out the facilities.

To cut the story short, we checked out the classrooms, playground etc. and Lil' C was really excited about it. So I thought Great! I'm all set then.

A little conversation later:
Me: Lil' C, do u want to go to school?

C: Yes, mommy! I love school.

Me: But mommy's not going to be there, ok?

C: *pause, thought about it & eyes started to get misty * I think that is not a very good idea, mom! I want to be with you! :(

Me: *sigh* (I think I got to do a little brainwashing to do........ )

My cousin just had a baby girl last month. I have been cracking my head trying to figure out a perfect gift for the baby and I think I have just found it! I am sure they will love a personalized Ultrasoft Baby Blanket from Hollingtons. Maybe I should include a baby bib too. Are you looking for baby gifts too? Then check out Hollingtons for their beautiful personalized baby products.

Future golfer?

By Lil' C:
I followed daddy to the driving range yesterday. Daddy looked like he was having a lot of fun, so I decided that I want to have some fun too. Daddy gave me the lightest golf club he had but it was very heavy. It's almost as tall as me!! Oh well, it's better than none, ya?

Ssshh......Silence please, I need to concentrate..........

Whoosh..... here goes..... how did I do????
Hey, what's my ball still doing here on the tee? Oops, I guess I missed!!! heeeheee....

Ok, another try coming up . . . .

P/S: Psst... Daddy, I think I need my own golf clubs..... :)

Give me a Clue . . .

From The New Parent's post on learning, I find that I tend to lean towards indirect teaching when it comes to Lil' C. Maybe because of my own boring straight-from-the-book education upbringing, I try to make it more fun for Lil' C.

One that I shared before was my color game. Another game that we love to play is the Give me a Clue game (Sorry for the boring game title...hehe... These are all self-invented games! :) ) Anway, the Clue game is just like it says, I give clues & she trys to answer them.
Some of the examples are:

Clue: What is a monkey's favorite fruit. It's yellow & it grows on trees.
Answer: Bananas!!

Clue: I am an animal that loves bamboo. I'm black and white. I come from China. What am I?
Answer: Panda!!

Clue: My mommy is a kangaroo & I live in a pouch. Who am I?
Answer: Joey!!

See, simple and yet she's learning a lot of facts. We love to play this especially during lunchtime when it's just me & her at the table. She gets to eat & learn at the same time. Lil' C loves playing this game & now she's even giving me clues. She will ask me, What is an animal & it moos???? :)

We also play the riddles game. It works the same way just with riddles. An example will be When the sun goes down, what comes up?

I think the best part of these games are to get our little ones thinking instead of just reading the facts from the book. Try it with your little ones & you'll find that they will be much more interested in learning :)

Friday, August 24, 2007

I have been unemployed since the birth of my daughter. Since she’ll be going to school soon, I think it’s time for me to get my real estate license so that I can be a real estate agent. I have been checking out for schools that offers real estate courses near my house. Other than real estate schools, also list schools that offer appraisal, insurance, mortgage, home inspection and many more. Do check them out if you are interested in getting your real estate license too!

Night owl. . .

Yep, that's what my gal is!!! Ever since she was a baby, she's never been a good sleeper. I always envy those mommies that have babies to go to bed at 7 pm and sleep well for the next 12 hours. *sigh* I was never that fortunate. As a baby, she hated naps and always made a big fuss about it. She's a really sweet little gal till the word nap is mentioned, then she turns into a cranky little gal. :(
Well, for the last month, I've decided to give up forcing her to take naps. Instead I set a quiet time where she has to be quiet & rest & read some books by herself. So far, it's working out ok. There's pros & cons. The bad part is that she's falling asleep at dinner table. So now I have to try to get dinner earlier. But the best part is that without a nap, she's now ready for bed at 9 pm instead of her usual 11 pm. So more time for myself at night. :) I think I'm going to stick to this schedule for a while & see what happens.

Shopping for Blinds

I have been thinking of getting some blinds for my house. However, I have really odd-sized windows in my house so I will have to get some custom made blinds to fit the size. I think Terry Fabrics has just what I need. They have a huge range of blinds. Hmmm.... I wonder if I should get the venetian blinds or the wooden blinds.

Toddler Meal Idea - Macaroni and Cheese

One of Lil' C' s favorite food is macaroni and cheese. I try not to use the boxed ready made ones because I think there's a lot of artificial coloring in the boxed mix. So I try to make my own. It's actually very simple. Just boil some pasta (the fancier the shape, the better) & while boiling, add in some peas & corn to cook together. Then drain the water & add cheese (amount of cheese depends on how cheesy your child likes) & 1-2 tablespoon of milk to the macaroni & mix together.
Serve in a little turkey roll house with some "bear cheese" & "carrot sun" and it's another fun meal for a happy kid.

So embarrassing . . . . .

Why embarrassed? 'cos I just got outsmarted by my 33 mth old!!

2 weeks ago, just for fun, I bought a chess/checkers set for her to play. I have to admit I do not know how to play chess!! But DH does play a little chess, so he just kinda explain to her what each one means & how it should be placed on the board.

Today, she came to me asking me to play chess & I told her I didn't know how to play & to wait for her daddy to get home to play with her. I think she didn't like that idea so she started teaching me chess!! So she started showing me each chess piece & saying this is a knight, this is a king, this is a bishop, this is a rook etc...... Mommy's listening & going huh???? Errr... I think there's a role reversal here........... Then she showed me how to put each piece in its place

All done with no help from Mommy. Anyone knows chess? Is it done correctly?? 'cos I have no idea!! hehehe......

Edited to add:

Lil' C says: Aunty giddytigers, thank you for telling me that I got my bishop & rook mixed up. I will change it. Mommy's no help at all..... :) I dun know how to move yet. Daddy's too busy to teach me now. Can u teach me??? :p

Cheap Hotels in Paris

Before I got married, I always dreamed that someday when I get married, my future husband and I will spend our honeymoon in Paris, one of the most romantic city in the world. Unfortunately, we never made it to Paris for our honeymoon. However, my husband did promise that he will bring me to Paris someday in the future. With our tenth year anniversary coming up, I think it’s about time he fulfills his promise. Don’t you agree?

The first thing on my agenda when I’m in Paris is to visit the Eiffel Tower. Going to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower is unthinkable. Next on my list will be a visit to The Louvre, the famous art museum, to see Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Other landmarks that I will want to see are the Arc de Triomphe and Paris Notre-Dame Cathedral. Do you know what else is on my to-visit list? It’s not a landmark, rather it’s a bakery! The foodie in me wants to visit the Pierre Herme Bakery for his famous macarons! Yum!

With so many places to visit, I will need at least 2 weeks in Paris. I guess I better look for a cheaper place to stay. After a lot of research on hotel deals, I will be booking my Paris Hotel with They have really good deals on Hotels in Paris as well as other Hotels in France. They even guarantee the lowest price on the internet. Now that I know where to visit and stay, all that’s left to do is to convince my husband. Wish me luck!

Mama, Mommy, Mom......

When Lil' C first started talking around a year old, she called me Mama. Then 6 months later, when she was talking a lot more, I became Mommy. It was Mommy for a while. Then she decided she prefers to call me Mama again!!! So it was Mama for a couple of months. Recently, Mama is no longer the preferred. Now it's Mom!!! *sigh* Kids!!! They are so fickle-minded!! :)
So what do your little ones call you?

Cheap Hotels in Australia

Ten years ago, I went on a three week backpack trip around Australia. I had so much fun and would have extended the trip if I didn’t have to start working. I promised myself then that I will be back to visit Australia someday. This time around I plan to spend more time in Sydney and Melbourne.

There’s so much to see and do in Sydney. At the top of my list is the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb!! I don’ know if I’m fit enough to climb to the top but I will definitely try. I will also spend some time at Darling Harbor visiting the Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Wildlife World, Australian National Maritime Museum, and the Powerhouse Museum.

In Melbourne, I would love to visit the Queen Victoria Market again. After some time at the Queen Victoria Market, it will be great to relax & enjoy some great food at the buzzing laneway cafes! For this trip, I will be booking my Sydney Hotel, Darling Harbour Hotel and Melbourne Hotel with Cheaperthanhotels. com. They have great rates for hotels. I can’t wait for my vacation to begin!!

Pancake Molds

From my previous post on pancakes, some mommies were wondering what I did with the pancake scraps & whether I ate them or not. Actually hor, there is NONE!! hehe... The secret: I used these molds to make the pancakes!

All I have to do is place one of the mold on a frying pan & pour the batter into the mold. Then when the pancake is almost set, remove the mold. Then flip the pancake over to cook the other side & voila, nice star-shaped pancake!! This can be used for eggs too. If you use the circle mold, then you will get a nice round egg like the ones in McDonalds Egg McMuffin. : ) Oh, check out this nice rooster mold! Cute hor?

My nephew told me that he would like to have a Nintendo Wii for his birthday but being unemployed, I don’t think I can afford to buy him one. The only way I can get him a Wii is to bid for it at Bid4Prizes.

It is really easy to play the bid game at Bid4Prizes. All I have to do is to sign up for a membership and start my bidding at or from my cell phone. If I get the lowest bid for the Wii, the Wii will be mine FREE!!

Besides Nintendo Wii, Bid4Prizes also offers a lot of other free gifts, including cash prizes. I think I am going to bid for the $1000 grocery gift card too! What about you? Would you like to win some free prizes? Then go ahead and join in this Bid4Prizes auction sweepstakes and start winning!

Miss Sensitive

Little Missy is so sensitive nowadays. Everytime I raise my voice at her, she'll get upset & runs & hides in the closet or she'll sit at the bottom of the stairs and sings her sad song. Want to know what her sad song is? I managed to get the entire lyrics the other day. This is what she sings.

Sometimes I feel like I don't belong,
And I never get anything right,
Doing my best doesn't seem good enough,
No matter how I try.......

Adoi!! *slaps forehead* She's not even 3 yet!!! I don't know to get more upset or to laugh!! I really hope she grows out of this sensitive stage soon.......

Teaching Chinese (Mandarin) Language

When Lil' C was born, I always wanted to teach her Chinese and I did...... at least for the first few months of her life. Then when she started to show interest in books around 9 month, all my Chinese lessons went out the door. : ( She loves books. Since we can borrow as many books as we want from the libraries here, we would go through at least 10 books a day. My Chinese is very rusty and definitely not good enough to translate all those books to Chinese. I couldn't get hold of any Chinese books at all. It was very hard keeping her interested in a language with no books, flashcards and especially one which no one else speaks. So I kinda abandoned her Chinese lesson.

But now I think it's a good idea to get started again for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that I want her to be able to communicate with her grandparents. With the inlaws impending visit sometime next yr, I want them to be able to enjoy their time together & not be marred by the inability to communicate since the inlaws don't speak English.

Another reason is that she's at a point where she's absorbing everything. Occasionally I still teach her a few Chinese words & I find her picking them up much faster than before. Now that we've moved to the Pacific Northwest, there's so much more resources available too. Even Chinese schools!!

So...... wish me luck everyone! : ) Hopefully the lessons will go well. Anyone knows of a good Chinese learning website? :P

Craft Time: Ice Cream

Which kid does not like to eat ice-cream? I know mine is crazy about it. She loves this craft. All you need for this craft are

  • a triangle for the cone
  • some circles for the different flavors
  • some smaller red circles for cherries
  • shredded bits of crepe paper for sprinkles

Then let them assemble it with as many scoops of ice-cream as they like : )

Finish it off with some cherries & sprinkles! Better than Haagen-Dazs, eh??? :p
